Thinking of starting your own podcast? Here are some tips on finding your authentic voice.

Gabriela recently had the opportunity to co-lead a panel discussion (thanks Christy Maxfield) on podcasting at a local co-working space and there were several questions about how and what to share.  Here are a couple of tips to help you find your authentic voice.

🥇What do you like talking about?

When we started the podcast, Gabriela was passionate about helping small business owners succeed and Junior about helping professionals navigate their careers and realized THAT was exciting to us.  In fact, in many episodes, we find ourselves saying "we are excited about today's topic" because we genuinely are!  Take that excitement and knowledge to the next level and share it with your audience.

🥈Get organized.

Once we knew what we wanted to share, we had to find a way to do so that made sense and that engaged us both. We like to share possible topic ideas with each other and get each other's thoughts.  If we hope to give it a thumbs up, we sit down and decide how to best approach the subject.  Is it something we both know about or does it make sense for one of us to take the lead?  Maybe neither of us knows much about the subject but we feel it should be discussed - does it make sense for us to talk about our own experiences even though we are not experts?  Can you plan ahead for the next couple of scheduled recordings so that you are not piece mailing?  Once we have a few in mind, we each like to put some bullet points we feel are important.

🥉 Dale

Once you have some topic ideas down, it’s time to do it! There is no perfect episode and you want to make sure your personality shines through so stay true to yourself. Sometimes we repeat ourselves or we lose our train of thought, it’s normal and for the most part, we leave it in. In some episodes, one of us is clearly more knowledgeable about the topic and we have found a way to allow each other to shine individually as well as collectively. Don’t wait until everything is perfect, start recording and start having fun!
