Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month with Ricardo Martinez! 🌟
Ricardo Martinez was born in Mexico and brought to the United States by his mother in search of a better life.
Thanks to the Obama Administration, Ricardo was granted DACA, which allowed him to work and be in the U.S. legally when he was 15. Without this, he would not have been able to get his driver's license or his first job. DACA gave him the chance to reach his hopes and dreams. While DACA has provided a path forward, it has not been traditional since he can't join the army, receive scholarships, or get help paying for college. However, thanks to DACA, Ricardo has been able to build his own path forward.
Growing up, Ricardo lived in a household full of fear, afraid to open the door because they thought it might be immigration. At 14, he helped his parents work in a meat factory and understand the U.S. system. They felt alone and isolated in the Midwest without a community.
Now, Ricardo aims to make a difference for his community, using his experience and determination to help others in similar situations.
